37 Years Strong: A Look Back at the History of OAME

37 Years Strong: A Look Back at the History of OAME

The Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs (OAME) is celebrating a milestone year! Since 1987, they’ve been a driving force in empowering and supporting minority-owned businesses in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and explore the rich history of this impactful organization.

OAME’s Humble Beginnings started in 1987 as an idea from the entrepreneurial couple- Sam and Margaret Brooks, with a clear vision: creating a space for inclusivity and opportunity. Their motto, “Everybody’s In, Nobody’s Out!” perfectly sums up this idea. It’s a commitment to promoting and developing entrepreneurship and economic development for ethnic minorities in the State of Oregon.

For over three decades, OAME has been a comprehensive resource center for minority entrepreneurs, offering technical assistance, networking opportunities, marketing guidance, access to capital through funding and grants, and even a business incubator program to nurture and support startups.

By offering these services, OAME is deeply committed to building a strong and collaborative community. By fostering connections between minority-owned businesses, public agencies, educational institutions, and larger corporations, OAME creates a powerful network that empowers all its members.

What lies ahead you may ask? As OAME embarks on its 38th year, it remains dedicated to its core mission. They continue to be a vocal advocate for policies that support minority businesses, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the minority community. Through providing resources and guidance, OAME empowers these businesses to reach their full potential.

The Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs is a shining example of the power of collective action and unwavering commitment. By supporting and empowering minority entrepreneurs, OAME is not only helping businesses thrive but also building a more vibrant and inclusive economy for Oregon and Southwest Washington.
